Search continues for driver after fatal auto-pedestrian accident in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — One woman is dead after a hit-and-run on 700 South and State Street in Salt Lake City on Wednesday night. 

Salt Lake City Police said that one of its sergeants assigned to the Liberty Patrol Division was in the area of the accident when it happened. 

The sergeant was able to respond immediately.

According to a press release, the sergeant arrived to find community members performing life-saving measures. The woman, who was in her 40s, was transported to a hospital in critical condition but died in transit. 

The driver’s location is unknown. According to the SLCPD, this crash marks the 19th traffic-related death in Salt Lake City this year.

“We have witnessed an alarming number of deadly hit-and-run crashes in the past two weeks,” said Chief Mike Brown in a release. “

I want to make it unequivocally clear — this behavior is unacceptable. I strongly urge the drivers involved in these recent crashes to turn themselves in. These tragedies have left lasting scars on families, and your cooperation is not just a legal obligation but a moral one.”
