MONTICELLO, Utah — San Juan County Search and rescue teams responded to a distress call at the Generic Crack climbing route in Indian Creek. A male climber had slipped, getting his knee wedged in a crack around 8 p.m. Friday night.
His climbing partners’ efforts to free him proved unsuccessful, prompting a call for assistance from nearby Search and Rescue teams.
Upon arrival, it was decided that Classic Air Medical would transport team members to the top of the cliff, allowing them to rappel down to the stranded climber.
Despite several hours of attempts to dislodge the stuck individual, additional manpower was requested from Grand County Search and Rescue.
With the combined efforts of both SAR teams, the climber was successfully freed and safely returned to the ground. He was trapped on the wall for approximately 12 hours. Fortunately, he sustained only minor injuries.
In a Facebook post San Juan Search and Rescue thanked both Classic Air Medical and Grand County SAR. They said, “Without them, this rescue would not have been possible.”
