OGDEN — One man is dead and another is critically injured after a shooting in Ogden Sunday morning. It happened in the 700 block of 30th Street.
Ogden police said a suspect was taken into custody Sunday night. Investigators spent hours searching for that person.
Esmeralda Marquez lives in the neighborhood with her family. She said she came home from breakfast to a lot of commotion on her street.
“I was out having breakfast with my mom and then I came home and I seen them, and I tried looking through my camera, and then I saw at 10:44, I heard the gunshots,” she said.
The surveillance camera on her house recorded six gunshots fired off in rapid succession, in broad daylight.
“I didn’t know what to think,” Marquez said. “I’m like, what’s going on?”
Investigation into Ogden shooting
At 10:46 a.m., police said they were called about a shooting and began searching for the suspected shooter near 30th Street and Madison Avenue.
When they arrived, officers said they found the first victim’s body. The injured victim was found nearby, but police could not confirm whether the two victims were connected to each other or to the same shooter.
Police said the injured victim took himself to the hospital, where he was then taken into surgery.
“It’s crazy because my kids are always playing outside and I was glad they were not outside, they were sleeping,” Marquez said. “It could’ve been worse.”
Investigators blocked off the area while they searched for evidence and looked for the suspect.
“There was just tape all over the place and a lot of police officers,” Marquez said. “They came to talk to me too. And they asked me for my footage and I provided it.”
Police said there is no threat to the public. Marquez said it concerns her that this shooting took place in her neighborhood, where a lot of young children live.
“Now, I’m scared, I’ve got to take care more of my kids and not let them wander,” she said.
