SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service predicted the possibility of a snow squall in northern Utah on Tuesday night, and by the 6 p.m. hour, the squall arrived.
Official word from the NWS hit phones in Salt Lake City at 6:10 p.m.
A snow squall is a quick-moving storm that is generally tied to cold fronts. The National Weather Service says they move into and out of an area quickly.

Their particular danger is that snow squalls can create white-out conditions very quickly. They can also quickly make roads an icy mess.
Officials urge you to avoid driving during the times that snow squalls are predicted, and at the very least, to slow down and allow lots of extra driving time.
Rocky Mountain Power reported power outages in Rose Park and other parts of northern Utah.

The Utah Transit Authority has experienced delays as well due to the storm.
Due to severe weather conditions and poor visibility, please be aware that bus operators have been instructed to hold as long as needed to ensure passenger safety. Expect possible significant delays on all bus services. This advisory will remain in effect throughout the night.
