SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Cox signed the first bill of Utah’s 2024 legislative session Friday night.
SB 89 modifies the starting date of a law mandating parental consent to use social media. That law now takes effect in October instead of March.
Gov. Cox said the change will allow more time to get feedback.
“While pushing back the effective date gives us more time to incorporate more feedback into the law, we are as committed as ever to protecting our children from the harms of social media,” Cox said in a statement.
