SALT LAKE CITY — A man is in custody after police say he fled a traffic stop and almost ran over a detective. Luckily, police say the detective moved out of the way just in time.
According to a Salt Lake City Police Department press release, the investigation began at approximately 1:29 a.m. Sunday.
Officers stopped a car in the area of 950 W. 200 S. The driver, who SLCPD has identified as 33-year-old Girato Kamilo Philip, initially gave police a false name.
Following this, he was asked to get out of his vehicle. Police say Philip then “threw the car into drive” and attempted to flee the scene.
After this, police say Philip crashed his car into a building in the area of 161 S. Pueblo St. No one inside the building was injured, according to the press release.
Police then arrested Philip and his passenger. After some investigating SLCPD determined Philip to be a parole fugitive.
