WEST POINT, Utah — The Davis County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that a 12-year-old boy has died after a suspected campfire explosion. The explosion hospitalized the boy and his mother on Monday.
Emergency crews responded and found the two with critical burns.
They were both quickly transported to separate hospitals. The son was flown via Life Flight to Primary Children’s Hospital with third-degree burns covering over 50% of his body.
The mother, suffering from second and third-degree burns, was taken by an ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital.
“It is an active investigation at this time,” said Deputy Fire Chief Curt King with North Davis Fire District, “What I can tell you is it looked like there may have been a campfire involved, but aside from that, we can’t release any details at this point.”
No damage to the property was reported.
