TOOELE, Utah — Police in Tooele have arrested a 9-year-old child for allegedly shooting and killing an adult family member.
Tooele Police Cpl. Colbey Bentley said the shooting happened on Friday night, not far from West Elementary.
It’s unclear if the child in Tooele has been charged. Police say there was at least one other person in the home at the time.
Bentley said the news has stunned his police colleagues, and the community.
“The impact felt not just by the family but the community in general — this is something that’s such an outlier,” Bentley said at a press conference on Monday. “We’re trying to figure out how to cope with it, and how to properly investigate it.”
An investigation continues.
