Remains found in Grand County identified as man missing since 2021

MOAB, Utah — Human remains found in the Book Cliffs area of Grand County were identified as Timothy Jordan Boone, age 36 (at the time he went missing.)
According to the Grand County Sheriff’s office, Boone went missing around August 4, 2021.
The National Missing and Unidentified Person System reported that Boone’s vehicle broke down in the San Rafael Swell area of Sevier County. From there, someone in an ATV took Boone to a fire station in Emery County.
Boone spent the night in a hotel in Huntington, Utah. According to the NMUPS, Boone was last seen in Moab, Utah, at a T-Mobile store.
Hiker finds items, posts to TikTok
On May 22, 2023, a hiker identified as Ryan with the TikTok ID ry_of_the_desert, posted a video to TikTok showing items he found while “researching an archeological site” in the San Rafael Swell.
The video shows a backpack, a guitar, clothing, and a blanket among other items.
Some who commented on the video said the items belonged to the missing man.
Recovery of remains found in Grand County and identification
A recovery effort began when the Grand County Sheriff’s Office was notified that someone had found human bones.
Search and rescue officials with Grand County, with help from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue K9, found the remains on March 10, 2024. Officials sent the remains to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office does not suspect foul play in Boone’s death.
