Driver arrested after double fatal crash in San Juan County

MEXICAN HAT, Utah — Two people died in San Juan County after a car crash near the Utah, Arizona border on Monday.
The Utah Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. The agency said the driver of a Chevy truck was headed northbound on SR 163 near milepost 9 when it crossed the center line and hit a Ford Ranger being driven southbound.
Two people inside the Ranger died at the scene, the DPS said. They were the driver, a 45-year-old woman, and the passenger, a 43-year-old man. Two other people inside the Ranger were taken to a hospital in serious condition.
Driver returns to San Juan County crash site
According to the DPS, the Chevy driver had minor injuries that were also treated at a hospital, but, he returned to the scene of the crash later. There, he was arrested for impaired driving. He was booked into the San Juan County Jail.
The crash is being investigated by the Utah Highway Patrol and the FBI as requested by a representative from the Navajo Reservation, the DPS said.
