SALT LAKE CITY — The Angel Moroni statue returned to the top of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple on Tuesday. The statue’s return came almost four years after the church removed it for renovations in May 2020.
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gathered at Temple Square in the morning to see the placement.
Its return marked a big step toward the end of the Temple’s extensive renovation.

The earthquake in March of 2020 damaged the statue, causing the trumpet to fall off. The church said it planned to remove the statue for renovations before the earthquake. The damage just pushed the timeline forward.
Crews ceremoniously hoisted the newly refreshed golden statue in the air by crane following opening remarks from Bishop Gérald Caussé and other leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“We also share our deep appreciation for the hundreds of skilled workers, engineers and architects who labored diligently each day to make more secure this house of the Lord,” Caussé said.
The church expects to complete the renovation by 2026.
