LUCIN, Utah — The Utah Office of the Medical Examiner has confirmed that the remains of Dylan Rounds have been found. Rounds had been missing out of Box Elder County for two years, according to Rounds’ family and the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office.
Rounds’ remains were reportedly found in Lucin, Utah in western Box Elder County. Officials recovered the remains on April 9, 2024.
Criminal charges related to the disappearance of Dylan Rounds
Rounds was last seen near his home in Lucin, Utah on or around May 28, 2022. Lucin is a small town on the Utah border with Nevada.
Rounds’s family lives in eastern Idaho and told news outlets there that Rounds mentioned an encounter with a man on a gravel road. The family has maintained the encounter was suspicious.
By early October 2022, Box Elder County officials said their investigation into Rounds’ disappearance led them to believe that a homicide had been committed.
Officials began to suspect James Brenner after he was arrested on an illegal firearms charge. At that time, according to court documents, Brenner was “squatting” in a trailer near where Dylan Rounds had been living.
Over a year ago, in March 2023, officials charged Brenner, a 59-year-old man from North Dakota, with first-degree murder in the disappearance of Rounds.
