Man found guilty on all counts for local toymaker’s death

SALT LAKE CITY — The man convicted of hitting and killing a local toymaker in 2022 was found guilty on all charges on Friday.
A judge ruled that 72-year-old Asael Lyman is guilty of five counts, including negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death.
In Dec. 2022, Lyman hit Nile Thacker with his truck while Thacker was stopped at a light on 9000 South and Bangerter Highway.
Police determined that Lyman was under the influence of alcohol and had a 6-year-old child in the car with him at the time of the crash.
Lyman was found guilty of the following counts:
- Count 1 negligently operating vehicle, resulting in death
- Count 2, DUI with a young child
- Count 3, failure to stay in lane
- Count 4 speeding
- Count 5 red light
