WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Advocates fighting to keep West Valley Performing Arts Center open say there is a sliver of hope now that the city council has agreed to hold a vote.
Management from West Valley Performing Arts Center has come to the table with a new plan. They plan to reorganize and take ownership of the theater moving forward. It’s a plan the city council has agreed to vote on at its next meeting.
“You know, all indications of what the city has said at the previous council meetings, they are eager and excited about the possibilities of this plan,” said Kate Rufener, with Keep West Valley Performing.
Rufener has garnered thousands of supporters online and attended every council meeting since the city announced the theater’s closure.
“The city decided to get out of the theater business,” Rufener said. “And, this is the 501(c)(3) organization with the leadership in place that would like to help the city do that, essentially.”
The beloved theater’s fate will be decided on Tuesday, June 4.
