SALT LAKE CITY— The first of several GOP Primary debates hosted by the Utah Debate Commission begin Monday.
Congressional District 2
On Monday at 10 a.m., incumbent Rep. Celeste Maloy will hit the debate stage with Colby Jenkins, a military veteran who won the final round of voting at this year’s Republican convention.
Jenkins received a helpful endorsement from Utah Senator Mike Lee, who even appeared on stage with Jenkins at the convention.
Maloy is seeking her first full term in Congress. She was elected to office in last year’s special election after longtime Utah Congressman Chris Stewart stepped down due to his wife’s health.
Congressional District 1
The second of the GOP Primary debates will be between incumbent Congressman Blake Moore and Paul Miller, who also got the upset win at this year’s convention.
However, both candidates didn’t receive 60% of the delegate vote and Moore gathered signatures, which forced their primary election showdown.
The two will debate on Monday at 2 p.m.
U.S. Senate
Monday’s final debate will be between candidates hoping to represent Utah in the U.S. Senate.
The list includes current Utah Congressman John Curtis, Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs, former Utah House Speaker Brad Wilson, and Jason Walton.
Staggs dominated the final round of convention voting, due in part to an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.
Curtis, Wilson, and Walton all qualified for the primary election after gathering signatures.
The winner of this race will take the place of Utah Senator Mitt Romney, who announced last year he would retire at the end of his current term.
The four will debate at 6 p.m.
