FARR WEST, Utah — A structure fire caused severe damage to a commercial warehouse in Farr West, Weber County Saturday night, Weber Fire District confirmed.
David Reed with the Weber Fire District said the fire is still causing problems for crews, as there is a spot between the ceiling and the roof of the warehouse that keeps “glowing like embers.”
Crews are having a hard time accessing the area, due to how intense the damage from Saturday night’s initial fire was.
Crews are monitoring the area today, until they can get a better assessment Monday, Reed said.
The initial fire
At around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, June 29, crews from several surrounding areas responded to a fire at a warehouse on 2000 West. Those crews included dispatches from:
- Weber Fire District
- Ogden City Fire
- Roy City Fire
- Riverdale City Fire
- North View Fire
- Weber County Sherriff’s Office
- Utah Highway Patrol
- and Pleasant View Police.
“Crews arrived to find heavy black smoke and flames billowing from doors and windows on all sides,” Weber Fire District said in a Facebook post. “The interior damage was severe, causing unsafe conditions and making firefighting efforts difficult.”
Reed said the fire was so hot it was unsafe to get inside. The extreme heat from the fire even warped the metal rafters of the building.
The fire left the warehouse “at a total loss,” but no injuries were reported. The adjoining unit received smoke damage but the fire did not spread.
What caused the fire?
Reed said there was one big explosion Saturday night that blew the garage door almost completely off. The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time.
Reed also said this was possibly a wood working shop.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
