Missing Big Cottonwood Canyon hiker found dead

SALT LAKE CITY — A missing Big Cottonwood Canyon hiker has been found dead by a search and rescue crew.
In a post to X, KSL TV’s Dan Rascon said that search and rescue has been on the scene all morning. Authorities believe the 80-year-old man fell off Sundial Peak.

AllTrails said that Sundial Peak sits above Lake Blanche. The hiking trail to the lake is considered difficult.
According to authorities, the man’s body will be removed via helicopter and taken to the medical examiner’s office. Additionally, search and rescue personnel will be picked up by helicopter, as the hike down is too far.
