SALT LAKE CITY– Utah had its second-best ski season in history across its 15 resorts this past season.

Ski Utah reported having almost 7 million ski visits last year, the most visits ever in a season. This year, they almost reached 7 million.

Ski Utah defines ski visits as one person skiing or snowboarding for any part of the day.

Ski Utah’s Alison Palmintere said these two record-setting years are a result of multiple factors, not just because of the amount of snowfall.

“I don’t think it’s just one thing specifically, but certainly the quality of experience here in Utah also contributes to that,” Palmintere said.

Another reason for this increase is that more flights have opened up from other countries since the pandemic, Palmintere said.

There’s also a social aspect impacting these numbers, according to Palmintere.

“I think skiing and snowboarding and all winter sports are just such a great way for people to bond socially, to get out there and get exercise.”

Even though we’re in the middle of a hot summer, ski season isn’t that far away, Palmintere says.

“A good thing to be thinking about getting your equipment in order.”
