SALT LAKE CITY — This afternoon the final ruling was reached in the Taberon Honie case.
Honie was sentenced to death back in 1999 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s mother.
In an appeal hearing, the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole heard from witnesses and testimonies from Honie’s family members and four victim representatives.
The board did not find enough evidence to change Honie’s death sentence.
The board denied Honie’s appeal for a lesser sentence to life in prison and upheld the death sentence ruling.
This was Honie’s last chance for an appeal and this will be the final ruling for Honie.
Honie’s execution is still scheduled for Aug. 8, 2024.
This is a breaking story and may be updated.
