SALT LAKE CITY — Before a recent planned power outage, many Sandy residents were wondering what “sensitive electronics” are after getting an advance notification to unplug them during while crews worked to repair a circuit in the area.
David Eskelson with Rocky Mountain Power says sensitive electronics are mostly personal computers or microchipped devices that don’t have a surge protector. Those kind of electronics can be sensitive if the power outage doesn’t go as planned.
Eskelson said most of the affected residents should have power restored.
“A voltage surge or a voltage sag — and that’s what causes problems with electronic equipment,” Eskelson said.
Eskelson said Rocky Mountain Power sent the notification as a precaution. He said the company can typically shut power off without causing a surge.
