Colby Jenkins says he has requested a recount in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District race

SALT LAKE CITY — Colby Jenkins says has requested a recount for the office of the U.S. House of Representatives in Utah’s Congressional District 2.

Jenkins made his announcement via x.

We have formally requested a recount…we sent the below request just earlier:

In accordance with Utah Code 20A-4-401, I hereby file a request for a recount in the 2024 Republican Primary Election for the office of the U.S. House…

Monday, July 29 was the last day that Jenkins could request a recount. He lost the primary race by 214 votes to Rep. Celeste Maloy, the incumbent. The official canvas of votes happened last week.

Maloy’s campaign sent KSL NewsRadio a video response to the news of Colby’s recount request. In the video, Rep. Maloy said her team anticipated a recount.

“I have a really high level of confidence in our county clerks and their staffs. They do a really great job of verifying and checking all the ballots,” Maloy said. “So we’ll watch this recount play out. I’m confident that the final result will be the same.”

The recount will officially start Tuesday, July 30, according to Salt Lake County Elections.
