SALT LAKE CITY — The West Davis Highway will soon extend further north into Davis County to prepare for growth within Utah.

The Utah Department of Transportation announced an expansion project that extends the West Davis Highway, or SR-177, from its current stopping point at SR-193. The project will extend the West Davis Highway to 1800 North in West Point. That’s a two-and-a-half-mile extension.

UDOT Spokesperson, Mitch Shaw said this is all to accommodate the massive amount of growth in the region.

“By 2050 we expect homes in western Davis and Weber Counties to increase by 74%,” he said. “That’s tremendous, substantial growth. If we don’t plan for that and we don’t build for that then that would substantially increase congestion.”

Shaw said this expansion is part of a long-term plan to ease congestion in the region over the next two decades.

“The ultimate plan … it could be years and years from now … we’ll extend [the West Davis Highway] all the way into Weber County and hook back with I-15.”

Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2025 and be completed by the end of 2027.
