SPRINGVILLE, Utah — Firefighters say a school building is salvageable after a fire caused up to $100,000 in damages on Sunday morning.
Capt. Chris Whetton with Springville Fire and Rescue said a passerby saw flames and smoke coming from The STEM Spot at 1480 N. Main Street. That passerby reported the fire just before 6 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, Whetton said the fire was inside a school for STEM students and the flames extended up to the roof.
Firefighters put the fire out within 30 minutes, checking the rooftop to make sure the fire didn’t extend across the roof.
Whetton said he believes the school building can be salvaged due to the quickness of the fire being extinguished.
“[The fire was] actually on the smaller size, we were able to get a really good stop on it,” Whetton said. “It’s only affecting one portion of the building so hopefully they’ll be able to get that fixed and back in service really quick.”
At this time, firefighters believe the cause of the fire was electrical.
