LAYTON, Utah — As part of a large collaboration, the Young Caring for Our Young Foundation is donating over 15,000 meal kits for children in need.
The weekend meal kits, called ‘pantry packs’ are designed to help alleviate food insecurity among children. They will be distributed to children who lack adequate food on weekends and school breaks, when school provided meals are unavailable.
“We want to help children thrive in school,” said Tami Olsen, director of Young Caring for Our Young. “And that’s difficult to do when a child is hungry.”
The foundation is hosting four events where volunteers can assemble the pantry packs. The events run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at locations in the Young Automotive Group.
- Young Subaru hosts on August 12
- Young Powersports XL Centerville hosts on August 13
- Young Toyota and Young Honda host on August 14
America First Credit Union is also participating, and will assemble packs at their headquarters.
The Young Caring for Our Young Foundation has fed over 36,000 children since 2022. Olsen said that the foundation hopes to inspire volunteers to help in other ways, too.
“We know that in order to create meaningful change, we have to create an army of good,” said Olsen.
The group accepts donations to their cause at thinkcaring.org. In addition to food, the foundation also gathers clothing and learning materials for children and helps shelter homeless teens.
