SALT LAKE CITY — Phil Lyman is asking the Utah Supreme Court to force the state to pause the printing of ballots for November’s election. He wants the ballot printing process to wait until Utah’s highest court rules on his case contesting the gubernatorial primary election results.

On August 2, Lyman filed a petition to the Utah Supreme Court. In it, he claimed that Gov. Cox and Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson should be removed from office for “malfeasance.” He also said the November general election ballot should list him as the Republican gubernatorial nominee.
Monday’s request to the Utah Supreme Court is what KSL Legal Analyst Greg Skordas calls a petition for interlocutory appeal.
“Interlocutory just means we’re appealing something on the fly while we haven’t actually finished the lawsuit,” he said. “Usually you have to wait until you’ve adjudicated everything before you can file an appeal. [They’re] saying we don’t have time to wait for the lawsuit’s results, we want to appeal the judge’s order immediately and put a stay on everything so that when ballots are printed soon we know who’s going to be the Republican candidate.”
Write-in campaign
Lyman also said on X Sunday, August 11 that he’ll run as a write-in candidate for the November election.
Thank you for the support. I will be running as a write – in candidate in the General election in November.

“We’re not backing away from the fight no matter what form that takes,” Lyman told KSL NewsRadio.
