SALT LAKE CITY — Security experts warn that scammers are likely to capitalize on Apple’s iOS 18, which comes out this month.
One major change with the iOS update is to users’ “Apple IDs.” The term will be thrown out and replaced with the term “Apple Account.”
Melanie Fox with the Better Business Bureau said they see an influx in scams when a big update, like the new iOS update, happens.
“We’ll probably see more things with links. If people are texting and emailing links and then [customers] think it’s from Apple, [but] then it’s someone pretending to be Apple,” said Fox.
According to the Better Business Bureau, scammers typically go for older people who are not great with technology.
Tech and security experts worry these scams will ramp up with the new update, providing scammers the opportunity to use the old terminology to confuse people and get information. Furthermore, scammers can gain logins, contact information, and access to payment security.
According to Tech Radar, the update is expected to be released on Sept. 9.
