SALT LAKE CITY — A man who barricaded himself inside a North Temple apartment after an alleged domestic violence incident was taken into custody by SWAT officers on Sunday, the Salt Lake City Police Department said.
At around 11 a.m. Sunday, Salt Lake City officers responded to a call about a man who broke into a woman’s apartment 1925 West North Temple Street.
They learned that the man, who has been identified as 40-year-old Michael Dayley, knew the woman from a prior relationship.
Dayley was accused of stealing the woman’s phone and refusing to let her leave, SLCPD said. The woman jumped from a balcony to escape.
After attempting to contact Dayley several times, officers determined that Dayley may have moved furniture in front of the apartment’s door, barricading himself in.
The SLCPD SWAT team and crisis negotiators worked to get Dayley out of the apartment. At around 2 p.m., he was safely taken into custody.
Police learned that Dayley also had an active felony warrant.
This is a developing story and may be updated.
