SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Soon, ballots for the 2024 election will be sent out. This year, Salt Lake County’s election ballots will be double-sided.
The ballot includes 179 candidates and 88 contests, as well as several bond measures and constitutional amendments.
Salt Lake County Clerk Lannie Chapman told Dave & Dujanovic that the large ballot is unusual.
“We have not had an 18-page two-card ballot. Oh, geez … since at least the early 90s,” said Chapman.
How can voters get educated?
According to Chapman voters can visit SLCO.vote or go to vote.utah.gov to research candidates.
Each bio on the website was provided by the candidates themselves.
Chapman also explained that for write-in names to be counted, the candidate has to have filed for candidacy and been certified.
When will ballots arrive?
Mail-in voters can expect their ballots as early as Oct. 15, per Chapman.
“We can start mailing ballots tomorrow, 21 days before the election a lot of Salt Lake County residents. In fact, we’ll see [some of] those ballots hitting their mailboxes tomorrow,” said Chapman. “They’ve been trucked up from our printer. And they’re actually right now waiting at the post office for that clock to strike midnight so that we can put them into the system and get them processed. And get them to our voters’ doors.”
When returning your ballot, Chapman advised mailing it before Friday, Nov. 1.
“If you’re waiting till then, a good rule of thumb is to actually go into the post office and have the postmaster … date stamp your ballot when they receive it. That guarantees it’ll be counted. And of course, those need to be postmarked by November 4th the day before election day.”
If you’d rather vote in person, polling stations will be open until 8 p.m. on Election Day, which is Nov. 5.
