Northern Utah to experience roller coaster of temperature changes

SALT LAKE CITY — A roller coaster of temperature highs and lows is forecasted over the next few days in northern Utah.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Alex DeSmet said this month is shaping up to be the warmest October on record. 

“It’s been like an extension of summer almost. And we’ll get a one-day break from that and then we’ll be right back to the warmth.”

On Wednesday, we’ll see weather similar to the rest of the month, with highs up to 10 degrees above normal. That’s just the peak of the roller coaster.

The drop comes Thursday as highs fall 10 to 15 degrees, bottoming out somewhere 5 degrees below normal for this time of the year. DeSmet said the cold will only hit the north of the state with some potential rain at the Idaho border. 

Then, it’ll shoot back up to 10 degrees above average on Friday.

Temperatures will remain above normal through the weekend before cooling down slightly next week.

DeSmet said this type of weather is not much of a surprise for the time of year.

“‘Roller coaster,’ that’s a good way to describe it. That is not unusual for any shoulder seasons, in the spring and the fall, to ride the rollercoaster.”
