LEHI, Utah — A Lehi man has been arrested and charged with 14 counts of sexual abuse of a child, including 10 counts of rape of a child.
Police report in their probable cause statement that they were approached by the child’s caregiver who had found a note card in Jonah Canencia’s room from the child. Police say the note was written by the victim. Additionally, police say the note referred to Canencia as the victim’s husband and the victim as Canencia’s wife.
During an interview on Tuesday, police say Canencia denied all accusations. A warrant was issued and granted when police found more notes from the child and a pair of underwear.
On Friday police say Canencia came to the station to confess. During that confession, police reported that Canencia admitted to a sexual relationship with the child for about a year, which would make the victim 11 at the time the abuse started. Police reported in the written statement that Canencia confessed to raping the child as many as 10 times over the year.
According to police, Canencia previously served 12 years in another state for sexual acts with a minor.
