Utah gas prices jumping up again, just before Christmas

SALT LAKE CITY — Nearly 120 million Americans are expected to travel during the holidays, with more than 100 million expected to drive. Just in time for the holidays, gas prices across the country, including Utah, are going up.
A couple weeks ago gas prices in Utah were below $3 per gallon in most places. But according to the AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular has jumped up about 8 cents over the last week and 14 cents over a year ago.
Some Utahns told KSL NewsRadio that they don’t really pay attention to the gas prices.
“You know what, I don’t want to know. I don’t pay attention,” said Angie Sims, a Utah resident. “I know they go up and down. My husband uses diesel, so they just fluctuate. But I haven’t really paid attention.”
Curtis, another local resident, said the price of gas is part of why he’s not planning to go anywhere for the holidays.
“I don’t pay attention. I just know I need it,” said Curtis. “It hurts if I pay attention, so I just don’t.”
Fellow Utahn Loraina isn’t heading out of town but says the price of gas is always changing.
“I feel like you have to go places either way, so not much you can do about it. If it costs more, it costs more,” said Loraina.
Sara and Talia just got to Salt Lake from Montana. They said the gas price in Montana is one of the great parts about the state.
“$2.70 for like unleaded, regular. Well, it did get up to 45 [dollars] and then I stopped it because I was like, I don’t want to do anymore.”
