Utah firefighters deploy to California

WEST VALLEY CITY — Dozens of firefighters from around Utah are on the way to California to help fight massive wildfires there.
They gathered at the Maverik Center Thursday morning, before hitting the road.
The agencies include Salt Lake City, Unified Fire, Draper, Murray, Lone Peak, Provo, Uintah City and West Valley City Fire. Salt Lake City’s fire chief says they felt it was important for Utah to support California’s critical need right now for more help.
He says local emergencies and fires here at home should not be affected by this deployment of crews to another state. Utah crews have gone to help California in the past. This deployment is expected to be 2-3 weeks.
