New evacuations, closures from Coal Hollow Fire

SPANISH FORK CANYON — New evacuations are in place as a result of the Coal Hollow Fire, which jumped U.S. 6 over the weekend and forced the closure of the road.
According to a tweet from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, all of Diamond Fork up to Springville Crossing and east to Sheep Creek Road is now evacuated. They say these will be in effect until at least later today.

Highway 6 is shut down between the highway 89 junction to Tucker. It’s about a 10-mile stretch. Authorities say the fire is affecting power lines and a train track in the area. 
Thunderstorms yesterday caused the fire to spike prompting the 2nd highway closure in a week. Fire authorities say 500 personnel are out battling it.
“This is our 5th fire so far this season. They’ve all been somewhat similar. Highway corridors, extreme fire behavior, lack of resources all that kind of stuff. So it’s nothing unusual for us,” Section Chief Rob Powell said.
No structures have been lost. The Coal Hollow fire has burned about 30 square miles, or roughly the size of West Jordan.
