Draper firefighter hit by car while helping at crash expected to make ‘full recovery’

SANDY — A Draper City Battalion Chief is expected to make a full recovery after being hit by a vehicle while assisting on the scene of a car accident on I-15 last night, according to authorities.
Draper City Battalion Chief, Bart Vawdry, was on the side of the road helping after the accident on southbound I-15 near 146th South when a driver who was traveling too fast for the road conditions, lost control and pinned Vawdry between two vehicles.
Vawdry was eventually helped by his own firefighting crew and was life-flighted to Intermountain Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Utah Highway Patrol has been pleading with drivers to slow down all week following this week’s recent storms that have traveled through Utah but UHP Sergeant Nick Street says that it hasn’t seemed to “sink in.”
“I was driving home and I felt a reasonable speed for the roadway was maybe about 40 mph and I still had people going by me at 70 mph in lanes right next to me,” Street said.
Authorities recommend drivers pay attention to the surroundings and to slow down during dangerous weather conditions.
