Argument at West Valley party ends in shooting

WEST VALLEY CITY — An argument at a party ended in a shooting that left one man in serious condition early Sunday morning.
Jason Dean Hare, 41, shot Llewellyn Auvaa, 38, after the two men got into an argument, according to West Valley Police Sgt. John Pittman. Auvaa sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was hospitalized in serious condition.
The incident happened at about 1:45 a.m. on Sunday morning at 6349 W. Meander Ave. (3530 South), Pittman said.
According to a police affidavit, party guests saw Hare arguing with Auvaa just before the shootings. Although Hare had blood spatters on his pants, he initially denied firing at Auvaa and gave the officers a false name and birthdate “because he was scared of his warrants,” the affidavit states. The arrest warrant was issued this Friday after Hare failed to appear in court for domestic violence charges, according to court records.
Hare was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of giving false information to police, aggravated assault resulting in serious injury, possession of a weapon by a restricted person. Bail was set at $100,000.
