LOGAN, Utah — Despite concerns about the coronavirus, the Cache County Fair and Rodeo will go on as planned in a few weeks. In fact, organizers say they are expecting big crowds for the 141st annual get-together in Logan.

‘The show (and rodeo) must go on!’

The festivities for the Cache County Fair and Rodeo are kicking-off a day early this year, with rodeo events starting on Wednesday, August 5th. Organizers say they added the extra day because they are expecting a larger than usual number of cowboys to come and compete. That may be due to other nearby summer rodeos and festivals canceling, like in Preston. The fair itself will start the next day, August 6th.

“Because Preston decided not to hold theirs, everyone assumed everyone else was going to shut down,” Rodeo Chairman LaMont Poulsen tells the Cache Valley Daily. “Tremonton, Burley and Gooding are also moving ahead with their rodeos.”

Specifically, he says 275 cowboys are planning on attending.

What about coronavirus concerns?

In terms of safety precautions, organizers say they’ve been in contact with the Bear River Health Department and they will encourage rodeo attendees to wear a mask, but nothing more than a recommendation will be issued.

“If I was elderly with a health situation, I might not go sit in the stands with a bunch of people next to me,” says Poulsen. “The numbers in Cache Valley for the coronavirus are pretty low right now.”

Beyond the rodeo and fair, local entertainment will also perform as originally scheduled.

“We have Little Texas performing on Saturday night and the carnival and their rides will be back,” he explains. “We are doing everything possible to make the fair and rodeo as safe for everybody who attends.

The fairgrounds are located at 490 S. 500 W. in Logan and organizers say reserved tickets will be $12 and covered seating is $17.
