PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young University says it is planning for an in-person winter semester to ring in the new year.

In a statement, BYU says it does not expect to change its plans for in-person classes next semester. However, that is subject to change if the coronavirus worsens.

“BYU plans to continue with an in-person winter semester w/ the same modes of instruction as fall semester 2020 (remote, in-person & hybrid classes). This is subject to change depending on trends in disease prevalence and guidance from state and local governments,” they wrote.

During the end of BYU’s winter 2020 semester, the school moved all of its classes to remote learning and continued that policy through the Spring 2020 semester.

The winter semester at BYU should start January 11 and run through April 14. That includes a delay of a week to provide more time between the holidays and the first day of class. But beyond that change, BYU says the academic calendar will stay the same.

The university says that priority registration will begin on October 19, and that students can begin adding classes to their registration carts right now.
