I-80 travel restriction lifted for semis, other high-profile vehicles, due to high winds

TOOELE, UT — High-profile vehicles, such as semi-trucks and trailers, are now able to travel in both directions on I-80 after restrictions were in place due to high winds.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles were unable to travel between mileposts 0-99, or Wendover to Lake Point, in Tooele County.

Wind gusts are reaching 55 miles per hour, with bursts hitting 63 mph on I-80 from Grantsville to Wendover, according to the National Weather Service.

Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) has already responded to a rolled semi-truck on I-80 because of the high-speed winds. It’s unclear when the restriction will be lifted. UHP advises high-profile vehicle drivers to avoid Tooele County until the wind subsides.
