WASHINGTON CITY, Utah — The teenager who died in an ATV crash over the weekend has been identified.

Zane McQuivey, age 14, was operating the offroad vehicle in the Purple Hills area of Warner Valley when it crashed.

In a statement from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, an official said they believed the vehicle was traveling at slow speeds up a hill when the driver attempted a turn and rolled the ATV side-by-side.

A 38-year-old male passenger was also injured in the accident. The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation said it does not believe either of the accident victims was wearing a helmet or seatbelt a the time of the crash.

Multiple agencies responded to the call for help, including Washington County Search and Rescue and Hurricane Valley Fire-EMS. The teenager, McQuivey, was flown by Life Flight to St. George Regional Hospital. The older crash victim was taken to the same hospital by ambulance and is expected to recover.

Family offers statement about son

In a statement, McQuivey’s family said that Zane was an eighth-grader at Crimson Cliffs Middle School.

“Zane was a kind and happy 14-year-old boy … He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and community. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support that we have received. We are thankful for the Donor Connect program so that Zane is able to continue to help others.”
