CEDAR CITY, Utah — Researchers at Southern Utah University have developed a prosthetics for pets. The task was named “The Yeti Project” and is detailed in the video below.
Laurel Dodgion, the university’s academic enhancement coordinator for engineering and computer science, said the prosthetics come with human grade material. That included the sleeve which goes over the pet’s limb and under the prosthetic.
Additionally, said Dodgion, they do not contain metal in them so they will not rust. The limbs are molded and printed in a 3D dimension.
Dodgion also said the prosthetic, which was designed by three female SUU engineering students for a Siberian Husky named Yeti, is being sold by the company Bionic Pets worldwide, and can be seen on the PBS show “The Wizard of Paws.”
The cost for prosthetics for pets is between $1,000 and $3,000.
