SALT LAKE CITY — Dr. Taylor Randall, Ph.D., will be the next president of the University of Utah, the school announced Thursday.

Randall comes to the University of Utah as a familiar face; he currently serves as dean of David Eccles School of Business at the U.

According to his bio on the business school’s homepage, Randall also played a key role in the state of Utah’s COVID-19 recovery plan, “serving as Utah’s economic lead on the Unified Command for the COVID-19 recovery.”

Prior to serving as dean of the business school, Randall was an accounting professor. The U’s new president holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah in accounting, and an MBA and Ph.D. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Randall replaces Ruth Watkins, who stepped down to take a position with the national education non-profit Strada Impact.
