Leavitt named as new president of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square

SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah Governor Michael O. Leavitt has been called as the eighth president of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, as announced Friday by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Leavitt will replace Ron Jarrett, who has served as president of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square since August 2012. Leavitt’s wife, Jacalyn will join him in this new position.
“We thank Ronald Jarrett for his dedicated service and his vision in expanding the Choir’s influence to a worldwide audience through social media and other innovations,” said Bishop Gérald Caussé, an advisor to the Choir, in a press release. “Mike Leavitt will build on this legacy with his exceptional administrative experience. We are looking forward to his leadership and a future of continued success.”
In his role as choir president, Leavitt will also have two counselors, who will be named later.
“Using digital tools now available, the Choir can reach new and bigger global audiences,” Leavitt said in a press release, “It can be an emissary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an advocate for people on every continent who seek feelings of peace and joy.”
Bonneville International Corporation, the company that owns KSL NewsRadio, is a subsidiary of Deseret Management Corporation, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
