A new Washington Post report suggests the FBI and other law enforcement agencies were aware of several warnings signs before the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol. The report also claims the FBI chose not to act upon them.

The Post report outlines the days, weeks and months leading up to the Capitol Insurrection. It highlights tips to the FBI, and an apparent belief that the threats mentioned in the tips were not credible.

One of the threats includes specific references to violence toward Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah. The reports online chatter discussed targeting Romney, and someone provided a tip to the FBI.

Supporters of former President Donald Trump have made clear their dislike of Romney because of his vote to impeach the sitting president and not voting for him in the general election. While on his way to Washington, D.C., the day before the Capitol attack, the senator was accosted by someone at the Salt Lake City airport. Less than 24 hours before protesters pushed past police lines outside the U.S. Capitol, a person uploaded a video of the encounter with Romney to TikTok.

The Post reports Sen. Romney’s office claims to have not been warned about the potential threats before Jan. 6. The Post also says the FBI gave a handful of tips to Capitol Police.

Romney was vocal about his desire to see the former president held responsible for potentially inciting the rioters to storm the Capitol.

KSL NewsRadio reached out to the senator for comment about this report but was told his schedule would not allow for it.
