LAYTON, Utah — A junior at Layton High school is trying to raise money and awareness about safe driving, after a fellow student was hit by two cars this week near the school.

“As I was going to school on Tuesday morning, I saw the lights and the accident down the road from the parking lot. It was awful to see that so close to my school, I didn’t know if it was a student. I just was very worried.”

Victoria Bravo started a go-fund-me account* for the sophomore who was hit, who, she says she doesn’t know. Bravo says she’s motivated to help, because of several students who have been hit by cars.

“About a month and a half ago, we had another Layton High student in my grade who had died from a pedestrian accident.  Then there was another one many years ago, maybe 2001 on the other side of the school near the fire department.

“She had died from a pedestrian accident as well,” Bravo told KSL NewsRadio.

She says wants drivers to take notice.

“Especially teenagers, with their cell phones and their music.

Bravo says she just felt compelled to start the go-fund-me, and she’s been amazed by all those who have shared it.

I also want people to just know that you can raise money for people you don’t know.”
