SALT LAKE CITY — The 9th annual Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation Conference will be held Feb. 23-25 at the Salt Palace Convention Center.

The three-day conference is presented by the nonprofit Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation. The conference will also be provided virtually for those wishing to participate online.

“The conference brings together a multi-disciplinary group of experts from around the world to present and exchange scientific ideas and proposals relating to the complex landscape of cholangiocarcinoma. Global collaboration and high-quality research are hallmarks of the conference,” said Foundation CEO and Founder Stacie C. Lindsey in a press release. “A scientific conference that gives patients a seat at the table is the kind of inclusive, collaborative effort that makes this community unique. We are looking forward to a great conference.”

What is cholangiocarcinoma?

The CCA Foundation is a world-wide leading resource on cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), which is a rare, but deadly bile duct cancer with a poor prognosis. The foundation is working to maintain improve methods for early detection, advance treatment options and improve quality of life and survival for CCA patients. Next week’s conference is a major source for the presentation of cutting-edge research, innovative therapies, and patient education.

At the conference, the CCA Foundation will honor three individuals with its distinguished Mark R. Clements Award for community impact, vision, innovation, collaboration and volunteerism.

According to a press release, Mark R. Clements is the brainchild of the Foundation. Clements died from the disease in January 2006. Stacie C. Lindsey, his sister, and other family members have carried on his wishes. They created the CCA Foundation, which is now in its 16th year of providing assistance to other patients.

According to a press release, CCA is the second most common liver cancer in the world, with 10,000 cases being diagnosed each year.

As part of the conference, the sky bridge at City Creek Center in downtown Salt Lake City will be illuminated in green. Green is the official color of cholangiocarcinoma.
