Spilled contents of a semi truck on WB I-80 in Tooele County.

TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Eggs spilled all over westbound I-80 just before Grantsville after a semi-truck crashed into another and a Utah Highway Patrol car.

The UHP trooper pulled over one semi-truck around MP 85 just before 10 a.m.

UHP Sgt. Cameron Roden said another semi saw the trooper and attempted to move lanes to give the pulled-over vehicles space but hit a black passenger car in the process.

A UHP vehicle and semi truck struck by a separate semi on I-80 WB near Grantsville.

The semi then swerved into the trooper’s car and the median.  The impact flipped the trailer of the traveling semi-truck, spilling its contents of eggs across the roadway and bursting into flames. The driver told UHP the black car was in his blind spot.

Roden said the semi-truck driver was not injured. A man in the black passenger car suffered minor injuries and a woman was moderately injured, but nothing life-threatening.  Both were taken to the hospital.  The UHP trooper was not injured.

Drivers heading west toward Wendover were forced to exit at MP 88, which is around Burmester Road, to get around the closure of I-80.

The Tooele County Sheriff’s office is still investigating the crash and hope to have the highway reopened in time for the evening commute.

UPDATE:
One westbound lane of I-80 reopened around 5:30pm, but officials said it would take few more hours to clean everything up and fully reopen the freeway.

We want to hear from you.
