JUAB COUNTY, Utah – The Utah Highway Patrol reported at least 43 traffic stops for drivers going over 100 miles per hour during a weekend enforcement project focused on the Little Sahara recreation area. One of the cases resulted in a police chase along I-15 and an arrest for driving under the influence.

The chase began on I-15 in Juab County when a vehicle was spotted going 100 miles an hour. Officers pursued the vehicle and tried twice unsuccessfully to spike its tires. The third attempt worked, and the vehicle was stopped in Santaquin. The driver tried to escape on foot, but officers caught up with him. He was booked into the Juab County jail on suspicion of DUI.

Along with the dozens of traffic stops for drivers exceeding 100 mph, the Highway Patrol says officers stopped 275 drivers for speeding in the 75-100 mph range. The Easter weekend enforcement effort was centered on the popular Little Sahara recreation area in Juab County, which was crowded with thousands of people during the holiday.
