SALT LAKE CITY — South Salt Lake Animal Services said the dog thrown from a car Sunday is “doing great”.

Malin’s story

Malin the dog is two months old, and her name means “warrior” or “strong, little warrior.” She sustained two broken back legs and two rib fractures after being thrown from a car.

After writing about Malin’s story in a Facebook post, South Salt Lake Animal Services had all of her medical expenses funded through donations.

The shelter later said the surgery to repair Malin’s broken legs went well.

South Salt Lake Animal Services said in an update, “Malin is doing great! She is currently trying to use her back legs, but she tends to scoot back more than moving forward.”

The shelter added that, “She has an eye appointment coming up soon and our supervisor, Jen, is planning on getting her a pretty purple wheelchair to help take some weight off her back end. As she is still struggling to use her back legs, we still don’t know if she has a spinal injury at this time.”

A video on the shelter’s website shows Malin trying to use her back legs.

The shelter said Malin would need about two months of recovery before being able to go to a “forever family.”

The shelter’s other animals

The shelter noted that it had a long list of people wanting to adopt Malin, and pointed out that it had several other animals in need of a home.

In another Facebook post, the shelter said because of feedback from the public, it would share information about other adoptable animals on its page.

The post read, “We have so many wonderful animals like Malin that deserve a home just the same… Our shelter is so full right now, and we need your help!”

Since the post, the shelter has been posting pictures and descriptions of other animals available for adoption.
