East High students walkout in support of gun control, honor Texas shooting victims

SALT LAKE CITY — Nearly 100 students at East High School walked out of class Friday morning in support of more gun control in wake of this week’s school at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.
East High freshman Lucy Hall was one of those that walked out. She told KSL NewsRadio the walkout served two purposes.
“We wanted to do a walkout in support of more gun control,” she said. “And to honor the students that have died, the children that have died, and the teachers that died protecting them.”
Hall also tells KSL NewsRadio the students want a better future.
“We want to show that we don’t want a future where schools are dangerous,” she said.
She says that she and her fellow classmates are fed up with being scared of going to school.
“As a student, at our age, school is the most important thing,” she said. “It’s the biggest social thing. It’s most of our lives.”
According to school administration, the walkout began at 10:15 a.m. It only lasted 30 minutes.
