Sandy man identified as individual killed in Nevada car crash

WEST WENDOVER, Nev. — The Nevada State Police announced Thursday the identity of a Sandy man who was killed in a Nevada car crash last week.
According to a news release, emergency personnel responded to a crash on June 14 at 4:30 a.m. Police say a white Suzuki Grand Vitara utility vehicle was driving northbound on U.S. Highway 93 Alternate near milepost 47 in Elko County.
Police say the vehicle crossed over the center line and into the oncoming lane of traffic. It drove off the roadway to the left. Police also say the driver, who has been identified as 45-year-old Gennady Sarkisov, of Sandy, overcorrected causing the vehicle to rotate. The vehicle struck a paddle marker and continued back across the highway and came to a stop on the right side of the road.
Sarkisov was ejected from the vehicle and passed away from his injuries at the scene, according to police. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to an area hospital in serious condition.
Additionally, police say neither occupant in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt. Impairment is being investigated as a contributing factor in the Nevada car crash.
